You need to pick up a good dog food for your new puppy. I use ProPlan-large breed puppy food.
When you pick up your golden puppy he/she will need to be on a schedule. This is just a sample of a schedule, which you can change to adapt to you lifestyles.
6:15 AM: puppies go outside for potty training. Make sure you tell the puppy what they’re going outside for, and when they go potty, you have to praise them.
6:30 AM breakfast. They can eat all they want in ½ hour. Then the bowl is removed.
If a puppy is not fed enough, he can become food possessive. (Instincts tell him he will starve if he doesn't guard his food) To prevent this, make sure your puppy has a full stomach before taking his food away.
Puppies should not be on a diet during the first four months of their life. They must feel full. If they are getting fat then you need to change the “content” not the “quantity” of food. Protein levels and fat content must be reduced without making him/her hungry.
7:00 AM puppy goes outside again to play. When they come back in at 8:00 Am they will have a nap until 10:00AM
10:00 AM outside again to go potty
If they drink water when they come back inside they will probably need to go out again inn five to ten minutes.
12:00 they will eat again, but not as much as they did in the morning. This meal will be removed at four months.
Same routine as in the morning and they are returned to their crate.
4:00 PM they need to go outside for playtime.
6:00 PM feeding time for pups.
It routing as in the morning, They will need to go back outside for potty after eating. Pups will need to go out often when they are 2-3 months old. Be prepared to go outside once an hour for potty training. If your are not watching your puppy he/she should be in her crate where he/she is safe from chew up electric cables.
10:00 PM bed time for puppy makes sure you give him/her a few kibbles. Six little pieces will hold him/her till morning, food helps him stay warm and sleep well.
Once the puppy is house broken you will no longer need the crate at night. A baby gate will keep the pup in the room and prevent him/her from roaming and getting into trouble.
